KPOP NOW – Big Hit clarifies that Suga sampled mass murderer Jim Jones in error

Source: STAR News

Big Hit has released statement to address BTS Suga‘s sampling of cult leader Jim Jones speech.

In an interview with STAR News on the 31st, Big Hit official stated, “After confirming the issue, we immediately deleted it and re-released it. I apologize to those who were hurt or felt uncomfortable. It wasn’t Suga’s intention to use Jim Jones’ speech.  The vocal speech sample in the intro was selected by the producer who worked on the track without any particular intent. It was in consideration of the atmosphere of the entire song.”

He explained, “There was an error in the company’s internal selection and inspection process that led to release without realizing it was an inappropriate content sample. Big Hit checks for contents that can be problematic in society, culture, and history through its own process of inspecting various content from around the world but we’re experiencing limitations in understanding all situations and responding accordingly.”

He added, “I’m embarrassed and deeply responsible for the problems that the artist himself didn’t think about. I’ll learn from this case and take a closer look at the entire production process.”

Suga is under controversy for sampling controversial speech by cult leader and mass murderer Jim Jones‘ for this track ‘What Do You Think‘ from his mixtape D-2. Jim Jones, who founded the pseudo-religion of the people’s temple in the United States in 1950, is also a criminal who committed the “Johnstown Massacre” by forcing 900 believers (304 of them children) to commit suicide by poison.

  1. [+2,521, -267] It’s finally up. This is actually a big deal right now. Frankly, it was rash of him to include it. Please don’t hide behind the company like a certain someone. Acknowledge and apologize.
  2. [+1,976, -246] As you can see from Nate’s Pann, if you criticize BTS, you’ll be muzzledㅋㅋㅋ
  3. [+1,830, -210] Aigoo-ya..this is a bit much. He went too far this time.
  4. [+384, -20] Why are Koreans shielding him when black people are saying it made them uncomfortable
  5. [+344, -96] Not just this, he also said “he finished the mixtape thanks to the Corona..” and “luck brought to me by the Corona..”
  6. [+279, -14] I’ve seen a documentary on this and it’s actually quite horrifying. If Suga clarifies this I hope it’s an explanation everyone can understand.
  7. [+249, -34] 풉 pfft..and he went around acting like he’s such an artist..he’s just another tryhard after all
  8. [+243, -15] Just as Korea is sensitive to Korea-Japan relations, there are groups, regions, or countries that are sensitive to this. If they keep making this much noise with controversies it won’t be long until BTS becomes a has-been.
  1. [+1,828, -499] So all that hype that he was a “genius” was just media play because professional songwriters are the ones who actually do the album production
  2. [+1,478, -249] Yeah..it’s best he apologizes quickly
  3. [+1,171, -421] It’s better that he just admitted it quickly and apologized. I’m sure he was just as upset knowing they used it without his knowledge
  4. [+304, -39] BTS have never apologized personally for something themselves..they always hide behind Big Hitㅋㅋ. They cause trouble and hide behind their mothers skirt like a choding ㅋ
  5. [+295, -32] Even college students don’t make ppts [powerpoints] this bad… …no source, no voice actor check, just write it in because it syncs with the simple mood of a song. Is this the level of a world class idol?
  6. [+281, -31] He said it himself when he introduced the album right? Didn’t he say he felt proud because he worked so hard on it. Why is Big Hit apologizing and not him? If you truly see yourself as an artist and didn’t know then apologize personally yourself too. If you blame others that produced it, doesn’t that make everything you’ve said in the past hypocritical?
  7. [+246, -24] Is he seriously saying he didn’t know the source of a voice sample included in his own mixtape? Stop with the nonsense ㅋㅋㅋ
  8. [+239, -22] I get it being a mistake but its a speech that went into your song. I don’t understand why you would put it in without checking the content source.;;
  9. [+172, -19] Does BTS ever apologize on their own? Once again Big Hit is apologizing on their behalf..
  10. [+159, -27] They’re starting to lose it too…BTS must be hitting their expiration date.

KPOP NOW – BTS Suga under controversy for sampling mass murderer Jim Jones

BTS Suga is under controversy for sampling controversial cult leader Jim Jones for his new mixtape.

On the 29th, Suga did a live stream on V app and talked to fans about his new mixtape Agust D (D-2). While previewing the third track ‘What Do You Think‘,  a man is heard speaking in English before Suga begins the song. It turns out that the voice in question is an excerpt from a 1977 sermon by cult leader Jim Jones in Jonestown, a remote settlement in Guyana. Jim Jones directed a mass murder-suicide of 909 people with 304 of the fatalities being children. Jim Jones is also known to be close to North Korea and frequently shares North Korean propaganda with his followers.

The sampled sermon at the beginning of Suga’s song states, “though you are dead, yet you shall live, and he that liveth and believeth shall never die.”

The intro caused controversy online and and the hashtag “Jim Jones” began trending on Twitter worldwide.

Netizens are in deep anger that Suga had sampled speech from such a controversial figure as the intro for his song and ARMY had knowingly shielded him.

Fans stated that Jim Jones was anti-Korean and Suga had included the speech into the song for that very reason. ARMY explained that he used the controversial speech to make a point.

In the meantime, Big Hit has yet to make a statement to address the growing controversy.

KPOP NOW – [T/W] CNN reporter arrested on live broadcast while reporting on police brutality protests

**T/W** Article details violence and racist rhetoric

Source: News1

A CNN reporter was arrested by police on live broadcast while reporting at a protest in Minneapolis.

In an exclusive report by CNN on the 29th, reporter Omar Jimenez, an 8 yr journalist, was arrested by police around 5:00am while reporting live on the protests in the area. The producer and camera reporters with him were also arrested. While cameras were rolling, Jimenez asked police why they were making the arrest and if they needed him and the camera crew to move to another location, but police  didn’t respond only stating, “just following orders.”

As viewers watched, Jimenez was handcuffed on live broadcast and taken way from the protest site. Unlike Jimenez, another CNN reporter who was also on scene, a white journalist Josh Campbell was not arrested. Jimenez has a black mother and Colombian father.

Jimenez was later released from police custody after a call to Minnesota Governor by the CNN President. After his release, Jimenez told viewers, “my only consolation is the fact that you were able to see the racial discrimination with your own eyes because it happened live on TV.”

Later, in a telephone interview, MN governor apologized for the arrest and stated, “I’m deeply sorry. The arrest is unacceptable.”

What it's like on the ground during riots in Minneapolis over ...
  1. [+1,621, -67] Really uncivilized of them. They handcuffed a black reporter based on the color of his skin on live TV?…America is wild.
  2. [+1,231, -60] I get protesting racial discrimination and all but why plunder and loot innocent businesses and shops? That’s why you’re being treated like that..it diminishes the memory of the dead.
  3. [+824, -107] To be honest, racism is wrong but there’s a reason why blacks are discriminated against. You can protest peacefully like our country without the need to rob stores and destroy a city like a gang. You can’t stop violence with violence.
  4. [+47, -3] They lost the cause the minute they started looting stores..
  5. [+43, -0] Why aren’t blacks this angry when Asian women or the elderly are discriminated similarly by whites? Lack of empathy.
  6. [+29, -2] Even if there’s a power outage in the middle of the night in Korea, we go to sleep. But in America, they flood the streets and loot stores with gunshots. The U.S has a weird history with inventing hip hop and rap music using looted electronics. In Korea, white=Asian>black>. But in America, White>Black>Orientals. Asians suffer the most from racism. Guys, your fantasies about America are all lies..
  7. [+25, -1] Reminds me of the L.A Riots..I’m truly afraid of blacks in America. Guys, be safe.
  8. [+24, -5]  ㅡㅡthe real face of America.

  4. [+246, -16] It’s so obvious. The only reason why he’s not coming out to the public is because the other side won’t let him. This is his way of indirectly expressing it.

  6. [+141, -1] Lee Yong Dae’s wife admitted herself she was addicted to gambling..it’s not a rumor
  7. [+114, -2] Typical sex predator face
  8. [+100, -1] There’s a reason why he divorced her so quickly after dating for 6 yearsㄷㄷ

KPOP NOW – Pledis CEO Han found to have committed copyright fraud of IZ*ONE songs

Source: Dispatch

Dispatch has revealed proof of Pledis CEO Han Sung Soo’s alleged copyright fraud.

On the 26th, Dispatch revealed that they were able to confirm that lyricist “SO JAY” credited as composer on a total of 8 songs on IZ*ONE’s album is the wife of Pledis CEO Han Sung Soo.

Han Sung Soo’s wife had worked as a visual director for Pledis in the past but isn’t known to have any experience in composing music. According to Dispatch, Pledis CEO Han secretly registered her as the lyric composer in order to fraudulently receive royalty profits.

Dispatch confirmed with the Korea Music Copyright Association that composer “SO JAY” real name is Park XX joined the Association in November 2018. SO JAY is credited as composer only on IZ*ONE’s songs.

SO JAY has 8 copyrights registered as follows:

  1. “Memory” – Co-lyricist: SO JAY’s stake is 1.5 times higher than main composer Boombastic
  2. We Together” – The song was originally released for Produce 48’s final album in September 2018. So Jay wasn’t listed in the original version of the song. So Jay’s name was added to the credits in the re-release of the song in October 2018.
  3. “Violeta” – Heart*IZ
  4. Airplane” Heart*IZ
  5. “Destiny” – BLOOM IZ
  6. “Pink Blusher” – BLOOM*IZ –  SO JAY’s stake is 1.5 times higher than main composer Boombastic
  7. “Open Your Eyes” – BLOOM*IZ

An industry insider stated, “It seems he wanted to get royalties from the song as producer but was afraid CJ Ent wouldn’t approve. If he was confident, he wouldn’t have needed to use his wife’s name.”

Another industry official stated, “There are hundreds of rookie composers fighting to get chose by agency superiors. Even if their songs get picked, they have to listen to what the superiors say.”

When confronted about the fraud, Pledis Entertainment official explained that CEO Han took part in composing the songs but listed himself under his wife’s pen name. But according to Dispatch, even if this is true, it means CEO Han was double-dipping in the profits as he was getting paid as main producer and receiving royalties as co-composer and lyricist.

CEO Han also retorted to the allegations stating, “I personally took part in the song production. But even then, it was careless of me to receive royalties under my wife’s name. I simply wanted to be recognized and paid for my efforts in the songs. I was thoughtless. I acted on greed and didn’t respect the position of producer. I’m sorry.”

In the meantime, Big Hit officially became the largest shareholder of Pledis on May 25th. CEO Han’s stake in the company is reportedly valued at 100 billion won (~$81 million).

  1. [+1,531, -10] Wow, a real trash ba$tard
  2. [+1,471, -15] As expected of Pledis ㅋㅋ
  3. [+1,301, -9] He’s trash but very smart. He needs to put in that same level of effort with his artists instead
  4. [+68, -8] I knew he was trash after what he did with After School in 7 years and Pristin in 2 years..
  5. [+58, -3] What happened to IZ*ONE is a comprehensive example of the level of corruption in the industry by adults who only care about their own interests
  6. [+43, -8] IZ*ONE has been involved in all types of manipulation since debut…first the vote riggings and now thisㅋㅋ
  7. [+43, -3] Why would a lyricist use an alias..
  8. [+40, -1] Are you sure he’s the only one that did thatㅋㅋㅋlet’s dig deeper and catch them all
